The final section of the oldest pilgrimage trail in the world, starting from the bimillenary city of Lugo. Untamed nature, complete peace, and joining the French Way in Melide.
Route description
The Primitive Way is the original Jacobean route, first walked by King Alfonso II the Chaste in the 9th century. Its section from Lugo spans the required 100+ km to receive the Compostela.
The pilgrimage begins passing through the UNESCO World Heritage Roman Wall of Lugo, continuing along quiet country trails, authentic hamlets, and ancient forests.
In Melide, the Primitive Way joins the bustling French Way, offering vibrant pilgrim culture and great regional food before reaching the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
